Processors and PPMs

This server can support up to four processors. Each processor has an associated processor power module, or PPM, that must be present for proper operation of the server.

Note: The HP ProLiant DL560 must have a processor installed in socket 1 to function properly.

Caution: Do not mix processors of different types or speeds. If the processor is replaced or another processor is added, the system automatically detects and configures the processor settings.

Removal

Important: Each processor has a PPM that must be replaced or installed with the processor.

To remove a PPM:

  1. Open the two locking latches.
  2. Lift the PPM from the socket.

To remove a processor:

  1. Unlatch the processor socket locking lever.
  2. Lift the processor from the socket. The locked and unlocked positions are clearly marked on the system board.

The processor, heat sink, and retaining clip make up a single assembly. To prevent thermal instability and damage to the server.

Caution: Do not separate the processor from the heat sink.

Replacement

To replace a processor or install an additional one:

  1. Carefully install the processor in the processor socket. Ensure that the processor locking lever is completely open, so that the processor seats properly.
  2. Close the processor locking lever, which should close without resistance.

Warning: Forcing the lever closed could result in damage to the processor socket, requiring replacement of the system board.
